Morocco began their 2018 CHAN campaign with a 4-0 win over Mauritania on Saturday evening.
The opening 45 minutes proved to be a cagey affair as neither nation managed to carve out a clear-cut opening.
The hosts were the dominant outfit but they were restricted to efforts from distance, none of which trouble goalkeeper Brahim Souleymane.
Morocco nearly opened the scoring three minutes into the second half but Saidi’s deflected effort was superbly tipped away by Souleymane.
Souleymane frustrated Saidi once again on the hour-mark as the shot-stopper produced a fine save to deny the strike from point-blank range.
Six minutes later, the deadlock was eventually broken as Saidi slipped Ayoub El Kaabi through on goal and the striker calmly slotted past Souleymane.
In the 72nd minute, Morocco doubled their lead as Ismail El Haddad cut onto his left foot before firing past Souleymane from just inside the box.
El Kaabi bagged his second and the hosts’ third goal with 10 minutes remaining as he drilled a low effort into the far corner.
Achraf Bencharki rounded off the scoring for the Moroccans with a fine individual effort in stoppage time as the host start the campaign in fine style.
